ALBA

“Alba” is a project that blends the languages of contemporary dance, classical music, and literature, bringing together two institutions from Santa Maria da Feira (the Ballet Contemporâneo do Norte and the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra) in a multidisciplinary performance. In 2023, one year after the 50th anniversary of the first publication of “Novas Cartas Portuguesas” by Maria Isabel Barreno, Maria Teresa Horta, and Maria Velho da Costa (1972), and one year before the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution (1974), the project aims to question—both playfully and critically—the political, historical, and social meanings, as well as the poetic and philosophical dimensions, of the word “freedom.”
